The five players Arsenal are tipped to sign before the January transfer window deadline

Mikel Arteta is still hoping to add to his Arsenal squad ahead of the January transfer window deadline, and the bookmakers have odds on who the Gunners may sign.

Arsenal are still searching for their first signing under Mikel Arteta with just a few days of the January transfer window still to go.

Gunners are reportedly shopping in the loan market after a large outlay of over £100million last summer.

A centre-back and cover in midfield is thought to be at the top of the shopping list but with only a week of the window left, it's unclear whether there will be any new arrivals at the Emirates.

However, the bookmakers are still confident that several players could be on their way to north London before the deadline.

Here, we round-up the most likely to make the move to Arsenal before the end of the window, according to Sport Nation.

Pablo Mari - 3/1

Arsenal looked as though they wrapped up a deal for Pablo Mari from Flamengo.

The centre-back flew in from Brazil for a medical but was forced to return after talks between the clubs broke down.

As a result, his odds to sign for Arsenal have lengthened to 3/1 but there is still hope a deal can be resurrected.

A name very familiar to Arsenal fans is Thomas Lemar.

The Gunners tried to buy the winger from AS Monaco in 2017 before he moved to Atletico Madrid.

However, things haven't worked out in La Liga and the 23-year-old could yet move to the Emirates on loan in search of regular first-team football.

If Atletico were to sanction a move, Arsenal would be heavy favourites to sign him at 7/1, with Tottenham and Wolves also though to be interested.

James Rodriguez - 9/1

James Rodriguez is thought to be looking a way out of Real Madrid.

The Colombian playmaker is out of favour with Zinedine Zidane, having made only seven La Liga appearances this season.

Arsenal are believed to be trying to sign him on loan, with Everton also rumoured to be interested in linking Carlo Ancelotti and Rodriguez for a third time.

Whether Real Madrid would sanction a loan move, though remains to be seen and is reflected in Arsenal's price at 10/1.

John Stones - 10/1

This is a reported transfer that has only come to light in recent weeks, with John Stones having worked under Arteta at City.

A deal would be hard to pull off with the Premier League champions unlikely to want to lose a centre-back, although Stones is clearly suffering from a crisis in confidence.

Stones has all the attributes Arteta values in a defender and, as a result, he could be the man for the Spaniard to build his defence around.

Arteta has already poured cold water on the deal, which is shown in the fact Arsenal are 10/1 now to sign him.

The Red Bull Leipzig defender has a growing reputation and sits top of the Bundesliga ahead of Bayern Munich.

That could make a January deal even tougher for the 21-year-old Frenchman, who could also cost a significant fee.

Arsenal, though, are the bookmakers' favourite to sign him, with London rivals Chelsea at 10/1 and Tottenham even further adrift at 14/1.
